After breaking out in Obsession and landing the role of Rogue in Marvel’s upcoming X-Men movie, Inde Navarrette has found her next project—and it sounds completely insane.

Navarrette is set to star in The Waffle House Index, a new sci-fi thriller picked up by Apple Original Films. She’ll also serve as an executive producer, marking the first time she’s stepped behind the camera in that role.

The movie follows a Waffle House waitress whose already shitty night gets considerably worse when a stranger with a gun walks into the restaurant during her shift.

Sounds like a tense little crime thriller, right?

Oh, just wait.

What follows apparently involves a catastrophic flood, killer crocodiles, a nuclear explosion, aliens—and a magical bunker hidden underneath the Waffle House.

Yep.

Somebody put Crawl, 10 Cloverfield Lane, From Dusk Till Dawn and a scattered-and-smothered hash brown into a blender and Apple reportedly paid seven figures for the script.

The title comes from the real-life Waffle House Index, an informal way of measuring how severely a hurricane has affected an area. If the local Waffle House is operating normally, conditions are green. A limited menu means yellow. If the restaurant is completely closed?

That’s red—and you should probably get the hell out of there.

The screenplay comes from Andrew Nunnelly and appeared on the 2025 Black List, while The Incomer filmmaker Louis Paxton is attached to direct. Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment will produce, continuing its relationship with Apple following F1.

Look, I don’t know how you get from an armed stranger entering a Waffle House to crocodiles, aliens, a nuclear explosion and an underground magical bunker.

But I desperately want to find out.
