Here we go again.
The Batman: Part II has been delayed once more, but this time there’s actually a very real reason behind it.
Director Matt Reeves is temporarily stepping away from production due to a family matter, and Warner Bros. and DC Studios have confirmed that filming has been paused while he takes care of things.
The studio says Reeves has their full support and that production will resume when he’s ready.
And honestly, that’s where the conversation probably needs to stop.
Fans have been joking about the delays on this movie for years now, but this is clearly not one of those “the script isn’t ready” or “the release calendar shifted again” situations. This is personal, and Reeves deserves the privacy.
Still, it does mean the wait for Robert Pattinson’s return as Batman is getting even longer.
The sequel was originally supposed to hit theaters in 2025, then moved to 2026, then 2027, and is currently scheduled for February 18, 2028.
Whether that date holds probably depends on how long production remains paused.
The frustrating part is that this movie has already been in development forever, especially considering how well The Batman was received back in 2022.
In the meantime, Reeves stayed involved with this universe through The Penguin, which turned out to be a huge success and proved there’s still plenty of life in this version of Gotham.
Robert Pattinson will return as Batman, along with Colin Farrell, Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis, Jayme Lawson and Gil Perez-Abraham. The new cast also includes Sebastian Stan, Scarlett Johansson, Charles Dance, Brian Tyree Henry and Sebastian Koch.
That is a pretty ridiculous cast.
So yeah, I’m frustrated that we’re waiting even longer.
But this particular delay is one I’m not going to complain about.
Batman can wait. Real life comes first.
