Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Just Won’t Quit — Now It’s Coming for ‘Titanic’

No one—and I mean no one—can touch James Cameron when it comes to box office insanity. The guy basically owns the record books. But Destin Daniel Cretton and a certain web-slinging superhero are starting to make things interesting.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day just refuses to slow down.

Now in its fourth weekend, the Tom Holland and Zendaya blockbuster pulled in another $39 million domestically and $109 million worldwide, once again taking the No. 1 spot both here and overseas. Four weeks in, and apparently everyone on Earth has either seen this movie or is currently standing in line to see it.

Its domestic total now sits at an absolutely ridiculous $854.9 million, making it the biggest movie of the year by nearly HALF A BILLION DOLLARS.

But here’s where things get really interesting.

Worldwide, Brand New Day has now made $2.22 billion.

That puts it only $44 million away from TITANIC.

Yeah. That Titanic.

If Spider-Man can find another $44 million underneath the couch cushions, it will knock James Cameron’s Titanic out of its current spot and officially enter the top five highest-grossing movies of all time.

And let’s talk about Cameron for a second, because his box office career is just stupid.

The man has THREE movies in the $2 billion club. Three! Most directors would sacrifice a small goat to get one movie anywhere near that number.

Then there’s Avatar, which became the first movie in history to cross $2 billion worldwide back in 2009 and still sits on top of the mountain with roughly $2.92 billion.

So no, Spider-Man isn’t taking Cameron’s throne anytime soon.

But he’s definitely starting to climb all over the furniture.
