Saoirse Ronan wants to play a James Bond Villain

Okay, THIS I want to see.

Saoirse Ronan wants to play a James Bond villain, and apparently she’s not just throwing the idea out there for fun.

She’s “dead serious.”

And you know what?

Give her the damn job.

While everyone is busy trying to figure out who the next James Bond will be—including, interestingly enough, Ronan’s husband Jack Lowden, whose name has been floating around as a possibility—Ronan has decided she’d rather be sitting on the other side of the table plotting Bond’s death.

Speaking about wanting to take on darker roles, Ronan said she’d love the opportunity to play a young female Bond villain, someone who could channel all that anger and rage into something considerably less healthy than therapy.

And I LOVE this idea.

Because when you hear Saoirse Ronan, you don’t immediately think Bond villain.

Which is exactly why it could work.

Don’t turn her into some ridiculous comic-book supervillain with an eye patch and a secret volcano base. Make her intelligent. Charming. Completely composed. Someone Bond initially underestimates because she doesn’t look like the Javier Bardem or Mads Mikkelsen type who’s obviously going to spend the third act trying to kill him.

And then slowly reveal that she’s the most dangerous person in the fucking room.

That’s interesting.

Even better, the next Bond movie already has Denis Villeneuve directing, with Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight writing the screenplay. So we’re probably not talking about another goofy Bond adventure here. Villeneuve directing Saoirse Ronan as a cold, calculating psychopath opposite whoever becomes the new 007?

Take my money.

Ronan would also be joining one hell of a Bond-villain tradition. Just during the Daniel Craig era we got Javier Bardem, Mads Mikkelsen, Christoph Waltz and Rami Malek.

But we’ve seen plenty of older men sitting across a table from Bond explaining why they’re going to destroy the world.

Give me the seemingly sweet 32-year-old Irish woman who scares the absolute shit out of him.

I’m in.
