The Mummy: Book of the Dead Is Bringing Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz Back. Hell Yes.
Brendan Fraser. Rachel Weisz. Another Mummy adventure.
Honestly, you had me at the first two.
Universal has announced that The Mummy: Book of the Dead will hit theaters on October 15, 2027, with Fraser returning as Rick O’Connell and Weisz back as Evie. John Hannah also returns, alongside a cast that includes Oded Fehr, Kevin J. O’Connor, Michael Johnston, and Numan Acar.
The new film continues the story of The Mummy and The Mummy Returns. Which sounds like a pretty good place to pick things up, considering where this franchise went afterward.
The 1999 movie had everything: monsters, adventure, humor, romance, and a cast you actually wanted to spend time with. Fraser was the perfect charming, slightly clueless action hero, and his chemistry with Weisz did as much heavy lifting as the special effects.
Then we got Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Then the Tom Cruise reboot.
Let’s file those under… things happened.
Now Rick and Evie are back together, and I’m ready to watch them make another spectacularly bad decision involving an ancient artifact.
No plot details yet, but with a title like Book of the Dead, maybe somebody should consider leaving the damn thing closed this time.
