Jeffrey Dean Morgan Wants to Be Snake Plissken—and I Can See It
Okay, I’m generally suspicious when somebody announces they’re remaking a John Carpenter classic.
But Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Snake Plissken?
Yeah. That gets my attention.
Zack Snyder, who’s writing and directing the upcoming Escape from New York reboot, says Morgan has been regularly hitting him up about the role. And Morgan isn’t even pretending to play it cool.
He’s already admitted he’s texting and calling Snyder, hoping to get involved with one of his all-time favorite movies.
Honestly? Respect the hustle.
The original 1981 film gave us Kurt Russell as Snake Plissken, a former Green Beret handed 24 hours to rescue the president in exchange for his freedom. It also gave us one of the coolest characters ever to put on an eye patch and act like absolutely everyone was wasting his fucking time.
Those are some serious boots to fill.
Morgan acknowledges that Snyder may want a younger Snake, but he floated the idea of a more grizzled version.
And that could work. The guy already knows how to walk into a room, smile, and make everybody deeply uncomfortable. Give him an eye patch, dial down Negan’s chatter, and there’s something worth exploring.
But let’s be clear: nobody’s replacing Kurt Russell.
The challenge is giving us a Snake worth watching without spending the entire movie reminding us how much we’d rather be watching the original.
Morgan hasn’t been cast, and enthusiasm doesn’t equal a contract. But if Snyder’s taking suggestions, this one deserves a conversation.
Just remember, Zack: Snake has 24 hours to save the president. We don’t need to experience all 24 of them in slow motion.
